The Technology Behind Neurophone

Dr. Patrick Flanagan invented the Neurophone 23 years ago (in 1979). In all these years the Neurophone concept moved towards maturity but in a dramatic way. At Tufts University, Boston, Dr. Flanagan was able to develop language translator that can translate human speech into dolphin language and vice versa. He became interested in nerve signal information encoding which led to the development of electronic circuits that in turn duplicated the pattern observed in human central nervous system. It is evident that this development led to research in Cryptography. Dr. Flanagan used the nerve encoding in human speech recognition system to make his Neurophone work. The circuit that was confiscated by the National Security Agency was such that it duplicated exactly the encoding of Cochlea and 8th Crainial Nerve. As soon as he applied for patent the Neurophone was taken with the pretext of its potential uses in the defense research and development. It was after 5 years of legal proceedings Dr. Flanagan got his Neurophone back from the claws of national security agency.
In the present Neurophone, the voltage has been reduced to 50 volt from 3000 volt that was used in original version of Neurophone. This signal is supplied to skin by means of ceramic disks made from zirconium titanate. This disk prevents skin from effects of current flow that causes the skin to vibrate. The vibration is powerful enough to be heard by another person close enough and vibrate the bone under the skin surface. But Dr. Flanagan has not been able to explain as how the Neurophone actually works. There has to be some mechanism through which the skin transmits the electronic signals to the brain.
